No, it is not necessary to set up an account with PayPal. PayPal gives you the option of setting up an account with them or paying by Credit Card. Simply look for the 'Continue' link by the Credit Card logos to pay directly using your Credit Card.
Even though, you are not required to set up an account with them, you will notice that they strongly promote this option. Even after you have entered your Credit Card information, PayPal may ask if you want to pay using a PayPal account. Simply click on the option, Continue to pay as a guest and do not use my PayPal account. PayPal changes the look of their Payment web page quite frequently, therefore it is difficult to give instructions on how to pay by Credit Card and our explanations above might not be clear. So, a good starting place is just knowing that you do not need to set up and pay with a PayPal account.

You do not need to pay for each child. We highly encourage that all members of the family participate in The Globe in a Nutshell program. You will use the same user name and password and we recommend that a Travel Diary be printed for each participating member of the family. It is important that all family members agree when to end an Expedition. For example, if one member of the family has completed Expedition 1, then that person must wait until everyone has completed Expedition 1 before logging out of Expedition 1 and moving to Expedition 2.

The program is designed for ages 8 to 108. For children between the ages 8 to 10, we recommend an adult be present to help them through the program and ensure they complete the exercises. The exercises are very easy and straight forward.

To paint a picture on learning outcomes, we will use the example of 'Dhaka'. Once a member has completed both the course on 'The World and Its Physical Geography' (our preliminary course) and 'Asia' (one of our Regional Interest Courses), they would not only know where Dhaka is, they would also know that Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh, a country surrounded on three sides by India, at the foothills of the Himalayas with two major rivers flowing through it, the Ganges River and Brahmaputra River, which both empty into the Bay of Bengal.
This is just one example of what we mean by carrying a 'mental map' of the World. With a strong foundation in World Geography, learning History, Politics, Economics, and so on will be even more rewarding. Which leaves us at The Globe in a Nutshell with the question: How does someone learn History without knowing their Geography?

Our preliminary course, 'The World and Its Physical Geography', has four Expeditions. Each Expedition has a grace period of 4 weeks, but actual time to complete an Expedition is approximately 5 hours of online work and hands-on homework. Once the exercises have been completed in the Expedition, there is memorization work and quizzes to check progress. The length of time for memorization will depend on the individual. For memorization, we estimate generally between 1 to 2 hours of 15 minute segments or another way to look at it is 4 to 8 segments of 15 minutes of memorization work. So, total time for one Expedition will be approximately 5 to 10 hours and is, however, as mentioned available for 4 weeks.
Between Expeditions the time is unlimited. For example, once you have completed Expedition 1, your family can take as much time as is needed (a week, a month, a year) before beginning Expedition 2. Once you begin Expedition 2, you will have 4 weeks to complete it.

There are no instructors or assessment processes. These are General Interest Courses with an informal approach which breaks down a complex topic of World Geography into smaller steps. The material is very easy, but for young children it may require an adult to ensure they complete the required steps of the courses. Answers to questions rising from our course content can be found in an Atlas, on a globe or from the Internet. These courses are ideal for a family environment as it gives parents direction on how to teach their children World Geography. Many parents learn at the same time, but their children do not need to know this.

We do not monitor how members manage their schedule. We imagine they have very different lifestyles. Each course has four Expeditions. Each Expedition has a grace period of 4 weeks, but actual time to complete an Expedition is approximately 5 hours of online work and hands-on homework. Between Expeditions the time is unlimited. Most members probably study evenings and weekends and then take a break to absorb the given material before they begin the next Expedition. Each Expedition builds on the prior Expedition for each course. The learning process is very flexible.

In our program we offer plenty of exercises, activities, points of interest and quizzes. The questions on the quizzes derive from the course content and assigned exercises. The purpose of these quizzes is to help members keep current with the course content and to allow them to assess their knowledge of several concepts being presented in the course. We present the quizzes in sets of 10 or 20 questions. The questions are generated from a pool and often include images as well as text. Members are highly encouraged to review course content and play with the quizzes as often as they wish.
